The 1 in 6 campaign: Our Impact

At CHS, we believe every student, regardless of background, deserves the space to learn, and thrive together.

The introduction of VAT on school fees and increased cost of living is threatening the very diversity that makes the CHS  community so special. This is why we have chosen to act now.

Without our Bursary Programme, we risk becoming more exclusive, less diverse, and ultimately less relevant in preparing young people for life beyond school. That’s why we have set an ambitious goal: to increase the number of families supported by bursaries and financial assistance from 1 in 11 today to 1 in 6 by 2030.

Our Goal is to raise £5 Million by 2030

We have made a strong start.

Thanks to a small group of generous Old Waconians and parents, we have already raised 40% of our £5 million target. But to reach our goal, we need the entire CHS community to support this mission.

Give Regularly—Small Gifts, Big Impact

Regular gifts at any level help make this possible:

  • £25 a month (£300 per year) contributes towards the cost of a sports kit and essential equipment required for starting in Year 7.
  • £50 a month (£600 per year) supports essential academic trips, ensuring every student benefits from the full CHS experience.
  • £100 a month (£1200 per year) contributes towards uniform, school lunches and transport and an academic trip.

Every gift, no matter the size, moves us closer to our goal.

Specific Bursaries

The 1 in 6 Campaign is focused on building our endowment fund to secure long-term support for bursary students. However, we understand that some donors prefer to direct their support towards specific bursaries that align with their passions and values, and we are always happy to discuss such opportunities.

We are currently seeking funding for:

  • Sixth Form STEM Bursaries: Awarded to aspiring engineers, scientists or students wishing to puruse a career in engineering or technology. Cost of a two year Sixth Form bursary is £32,000
  • Sixth Form Creative Bursaries: Awarded to students with exceptional promise in the arts, music, drama, or design to develop their talents.
  • Sixth Form Young Carers Bursaries: Fees and additional assistance are awarded to young people with talent and potential living in Stockport with caring responsibilities. Cost of a two year Sixth Form bursary is around £32,000
  • Transformational Bursaries: Awarded to looked after children with talent and aspiration. The children are referred to us through our long-standing links with local state primary schools and our partnership with the Royal National Children’s Springboard Foundation.  Cost of a Transformational Bursary is around £105,000.
