Meet Simon!

As part of our series, Behind the CHScenes, we’re chatting with non-teaching Staff around CHS who are often busy keeping everything running smoothly! Let’s learn a little more about what Simon gets up to during a typical summer holiday…

How long have you been at CHS? What did you do before?

I have worked as Head of Estates at CHS for 10 months. Seems a lot longer. I came to the school as a boy for 11 years.

I enjoyed the sporting side of things more than academia. I captained the 1st XI Cricket and played 1st Team Hockey. Home Economics was probably my favourite subject and one that I remember fondly.

Prior to this role I worked at St Bede’s for 7 years as Estates Manager. Before this I worked in business that involved a fair amount of travel overseas.

What is an average day for you like?

Chaotic – 6am wake up with the kids, a scramble to get them ready for nursery and school and then work. Then pick up the kids, food & bedtime. Repeat!

What motivates you?

My kids motivate me, as do people, travel and exercise.

Class of 1992 (5) Done

La Boca, Buenos Aires, Argentina

What are you most proud of?

Inside CHS, renovation projects and continually improving the estate.

Outside of School I’m proud of my family, traveling the world for 2 years. Speaking fluent Spanish.

I lived in Buenos Aires for a period of time, so I learnt the language there. I wasn’t with any English speakers, so I had to learn quickly to get by. This was back in 2002. I’ve kept up with the language ever since through films & reading etc.

What do you get up to outside of CHS?

Kids, gym, football and tennis. I still play tennis for the David Lloyd Team. My footy boots have been hung up for a few years ago now. I think I’ve got the knees of a 70 year old!

I also enjoy cooking Asian Cuisine, although I’ll try my hand at all dishes.

What are your goals for the future?

More travel. Possibly down the east coast of Africa.
