Drama & Theatre
“I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being” - Oscar Wilde
The Drama Department is central to the cultural life of the School through the creative and diverse curriculum and the impressive range of co-curricular opportunities. We see drama as a valuable way of coming to a better understanding of how human beings behave, develop relationships and cope with the expression of feelings and ideas. Students explore and experiment with a variety of techniques, themes, theatrical styles and genres and develop the necessary skills to co-operate and learn effectively in the fun but focused studio environment.
Drama offers a unique challenge to students who like to be actively involved in all lessons, and who enjoy expressing themselves in a variety of creative ways, as actors, directors and designers. Our primary aim is to stimulate lasting student curiosity, interest and enjoyment in Drama.
“Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you anywhere." Albert Einstein
Performance skills are developed effectively in lessons, in productions and in lunchtime clubs to help build confidence and improve students’ ability to communicate effectively in various situations. The studying of scripts and devising original work takes place throughout the curriculum. Students are also taught to investigate, analyse, develop, assess and evaluate in order to constantly improve and develop their learning in Drama.
