Pre-School, Infant & Junior School Pastoral Care

Pastoral Care is a high priority in the Junior School. We aim to promote the wellbeing and self-esteem of each child, ensure that each child is happy, secure and encouraged to develop their talents to their full potential.

We promote wellbeing through differentiated high quality teaching, a varied curriculum, wide extracurricular opportunities and a strengths based ‘Learning 4Life’ Programme. 

We encourage self-reflection, coach and model good behaviour and try to establish positive relationships between children and staff based on mutual respect. 

We recognise the value of positive reinforcement and provide opportunities for personal development. We pride ourselves in creating a safe and secure environment with a clear pastoral support network in our efforts to care for each individual child. 

Class teachers, who have daily contact with the child, are key in terms of Pastoral Care. They monitor the academic development of the child, provide support and guidance where necessary and set standards in terms of behaviour and achievement. 

In addition the Junior School has a number of Teaching Assistants and Lunch Time Assistants who make a significant contribution in terms of pastoral support. The Junior School is further supported by a dedicated Safeguarding Officer, a Head of Wellbeing, a Head of Learning Support and a medical team comprising of a highly trained First Aider, a Counsellor and other qualified first aid staff throughout the School. 

The Deputy Head of EYFS, and Pastoral Managers of Years 1-2 and Years 3-6 oversee the pastoral welfare of the children at each key stage.  They support and advise class teachers and are available to children and parents when concerns are raised. 

The Head of Junior School has ultimate responsibility for the delivery of pastoral care and indeed for the well-being of each child.
