Upper Sixth Libby Dolling will be shaving her head in School on 20 December to raise money for a volunteering trip with Project Trust to Honduras in 2019.
Project Trust is an educational charity that empowers young people through a challenging volunteering experience overseas. Libby will be spending a year teaching children in Honduras.
Libby said: “I’ve always wanted to spend a gap year volunteering for something that meant a lot to me. Upon my selection course, I found that there was a project in Honduras that was teaching primary school children Art and English and the whole idea appealed to me. Learning about a new culture and completely emerging myself for a whole year sounded amazing.
“At the moment I’m very excited about the trip, but I’m sure nearer the time there may be some nerves as well!”
Libby is aiming to raise £6000 over the next 12 months through a series of fundraising events, like her head shave on 20 December.
She said: “I’m feeling quite nervous about shaving my head, I’ve never really done anything like this before and in front of so many people.
“However, I’m also quite excited, knowing what good causes the hair cut off and money raised will go to.”
Living in Honduras for a year will be a big change from living in England with her family and she will miss getting to see them every day.
Libby said: “I think it’s going to be hard not to see my friends and family every day, spending days such as Christmas and my birthday without them. I hope to do lots of FaceTiming whilst I’m out there to keep in contact.”
