Congratulations to Sixth Form cellist Finn – who has been announced as CHS’s Young Musician of the Year 2021.
Performing ‘Julie-o’ during a nerve-racking live-streamed final, he especially impressed guest judge, Saxophonist and BBC Radio 3 Presenter Jess Gillam. Also BBC Young Musician of the year 2016, she said the way he made the most of silences and really leaned into every aspect of his performance was captivating!
Year 11 vocalist Lily is the Year 10 – Year 11 Class winner after her soaring rendition of Beauty and the Beast favourite, ‘Home’.
Picking up first prize for the Year 7 – Year 9 Class is Year 7 pupil Daniel, with his own guitar composition ‘Manchester.’
Selected from 150 pupils, 17 performers were chosen to go through to CHS Music Festival’s live final with each competitor performing to musicians from the Hallé Orchestra in the earlier virtual heats.
