Hosted by CHS in collaboration with Simply Books, the author of How to Train Your Dragon visited today to talk to students about how she became a writer and what inspires her.
Cressida, who illustrates her books herself, gave the CHS infants a workshop in drawing and gave them a sneak peek at one of her new books Emily Brown and Father Christmas, which will be released in October.
Cressida then talked to junior schools from all over the north about her books and read from Wizards of Once which is being made into a DreamWorks film. Lucky students who came to hear Cressida talk today are the first ones to be able to buy her new book, Wizards of Once Twice Magic, which is out tomorrow.
Hayfield School came all the way from Derbyshire. This was chosen by a student who won a poetry competition. She wanted to share her prize to include the whole school so they could all meet Cressida and hear her talk.
Cressida inspired the students to be creative no matter how developed their writing skills are. She told of her summers as a child on a remote island in Scotland, where she got inspiration for the How to Train Your Dragon series, and how she wasn’t good at spelling or writing but she didn’t let that stop her.
We are sure some of our talented CHS students will go on to become authors just like Cressida.
