CHS returns to TEDxManchester
CHS is proud to be supporting TEDx Manchester for the second year.
Following the success of the sell-out conference last year, which saw current Waconians volunteering as part of the TEDx team for the day, CHS is set to return with more volunteers and guests.
Over 20 CHS pupils attended the 2023 convention, some won tickets by participating in CHS’s Presentation competition, whilst others helped out backstage or as part of the front of house crew.
CHS’s Deputy Head (Academic), Mr Nick Axon, believes events like these are what learning is all about: “CHS is not just about preparing for exams; it’s about preparing for the real world and cultivating experiences that extend beyond textbooks, and that’s what makes supporting TEDxManchester for the second year in a row an obvious choice.”
Founder of TEDxManchester, Herb Kim said: “For the team, TEDxManchester is a celebration of an experience with “a learning mindset”. Our greatest hope is that TEDxManchester helps to reconnect every participant with the joy of learning and discovery. Given our aspirations for the event, the Cheadle Hulme School is a perfect partner for us given its long history of excellence in supporting learning as well as the personal development of its students. We are delighted to see them return as a TEDxManchester partner and look forward to supporting each other for 2024 and beyond.”
CHS’s partnership with TEDxManchester last year enabled 40 people to access free or reduced price tickets for the event and hear from speakers in various fields about a diverse range of interesting and exciting topics. Our continued support this year will enable further guests to attend on a TEDx bursary.
With around 1 in 12 CHS Senior School pupils currently receiving financial support generated by the School’s own Bursary Fund, CHS’s values and philanthropic foundation closely aligns with TEDxManchester’s Bursary Programme.
Our connection with TEDx has extended beyond the conference itself. In November, we welcomed previous TEDxManchester speaker, arts professional and presenter of BBC1 ‘Life After Suicide’, Angela Samata – who spoke with Sixth Form pupils about her experience speaking at TEDxManchester. Stay tuned for more exciting CHS x TEDxManchester news to follow – including details of how our own Waconians will be getting involved and competing to win tickets over the coming weeks.
TEDxManchester takes place at The Bridgewater Hall on Sunday 3rd March 2024.
