Hard work and resilience has been rewarded with 78.4% of Cheadle Hulme School’s Sixth Form students awarded grades A*- B at A Level.
Matching the success of the School’s Upper Sixth students last year, the vast majority of the 2020 cohort are now looking forward to attending their first or reserve choice Higher Education destination.
A large number of students will go on to study at the country’s top academic Russell group universities including Oxford, Durham, Sheffield and Birmingham as they embark upon a variety of dream careers such as medicine and dentistry.
Head, Mr Neil Smith, said: “My sincere congratulations to our Class of 2020. Regardless of the fact 2020 has been a particularly challenging year, our students have worked incredibly hard and thoroughly deserve the high grades they have been awarded, enabling them to pursue their next steps whatever the future holds.
“The resilience they have developed as Waconians has served them especially well during these uncertain times and will, I’m sure, stand them in no better position for their lives ahead. Their impressive achievements should not be underestimated and as a School we’ll continue working with the exam boards to ensure our young people are treated fairly and their tremendous efforts are recognised with grades they deserve.”
10 CHS students have been rewarded with an outstanding 3x A*s or equivalent or higher, with 4 students awarded 4xA*, and 3 students achieving at least one D1 (a grade higher than A*) at Pre-U.
Top performers include Head Boy Peter who, alongside Jack and Oscar, achieved 4x A* each. Maya, Lucy and Maia were awarded 3x A*s each with Kirsty, Catherine, Lucas and Oliver receiving the equivalent of 3x A*s or higher at Pre-U.
Student Tom’s good results have even seen him receive an offer of employment from one of the country’s leading professional services firms PwC to begin a degree apprenticeship.
In the first year CHS has offered a BTEC qualification, the School’s young athletes also performed extremely well with more than half receiving a Distinction or higher in Sport.
Building upon CHS’s strong reputation in recent years for the academic EPQ (Extended Project Qualification), the School’s Lower Sixth are also celebrating with 60% EPQ students awarded an A*.
