CHS’s active netballers are competing at the very top of their game now they have been selected to represent some of the top teams in the country.
Year 11 student and U16s team captain Grace Sutton has been selected to play for Netball SuperLeague (NSL) team Loughborough Lightning – one of the UK’s most exciting regional teams after topping the scoring charts last season.
Grace will play for the U17s Youth Squad – just one level lower than the England Squad – after taking part in the NSL Open Training Sessions (trials) at Loughborough University.
Grace said: “It was really good experience but different, I didn’t know anyone though it gave me chance to look around the University campus.”
Grace, who has been playing netball since Year 4 and plays as a Defender either as Goalkeeper or Goal Defence for CHS, will now compete at the regional camps in Manchester, Yorkshire and Leeds to be in with the chance of being selected for Loughborough’s first team.
Dedicated Grace travels to Loughborough each Wednesday evening after School to complete her training.
Following Grace in the regional team selections, Year 9 student Lily Mullins has been selected to play for Manchester Thunder’s Youth Academy Squad.
CHS netballers in the Lower School are also enjoying county selections; Year 8’s Tabitha Bennet and Year 7’s Kiska McQuillan have been selected for Cheshire County Netball Squad whilst Year 7 netballer Zara Gross has made the Greater Manchester County Netball Squad.
School’s netball teams continue to go from strength-to-strength after the U15 Netball Team won Stockport Schools’ Tournament for the fourth consecutive year – and the U16s squad also celebrate as Champions for their age group.
