I would just like to say a heartfelt thank you for all the extremely kind and humbling messages sent through and posted on the website, following the announcement of my retirement. Cheadle Hulme School is truly a very special place and will forever hold great memories for Fiona, Chris, Matt and myself. The students, parents, staff and governors all help to create a culture and environment that is inspiring to be part of every day. My two boys have attended an absolutely first rate school; I know so many other parents will share that view.
I feel privileged to have been given the chance to teach, coach, mentor and lead in such an amazing institution where the balance between honouring our heritage with managing future challenges continues to be so well met.
It is a school, in my humble opinion, which encourages you to ask intelligent and thoughtful questions, while challenging you to keep thinking about how you can improve. The opportunities to travel, to take the bolder option, to learn from making mistakes and to use technology creatively are all things which have helped me enormously at CHS, especially when shared constructively with staff and students alike.
Moving forwards, I am very excited at being able to support the next generation of new teachers in a very small way next year, as we launch our new CHS Maths Teacher Training Hub and then prepare the same for a Modern Languages Hub in 2021. I will be in school at least one a day week next year, in order to help try and make those both a big success for the trainees and the School.
I want to finish as I started, though, by saying a huge thank you to every student who has enabled me to learn more about becoming a better teacher and coach, and to every member of professional services and teaching staff who has supported me at any level over the past 27 years.
I step down full of great memories and sincere gratitude for all who believed in me and gave me the chance to work at Cheadle Hulme School, initially as Head of German, then Head of Sixth Form between 1997 and 2012, and finally as Second Master. It has been a pleasure and honour to serve this great school as a full time member of staff.
