Two CHS Junior pupils were jumping and tumbling for joy when they were given top tips by Olympic medal-winning gymnast, Beth Tweddle during a gymnastics masterclass.
Year 5 pupils Ruby & Frankie were the lucky winners who were given chance to represent CHS during an exclusive Total Gymnastics training session with the star at Stockport’s Vernon Park Gymnastics Club.
During the session, the girls were taught all disciplines; vault, floor, bars, beam and tumbling.
Chosen after CHS was picked as the winning entry in Total Gymnastics’ Schools competition after submitting a video featuring the pupils saying why they enjoy their Total Gymnastics sessions in School, the girls were delighted to be selected.
CHS Junior School Sports Coach, Mrs Steph Walker said: “Choosing the two representatives was a difficult decision so we asked the pupils to write a sentence about what it would mean to them to be able to go to the Beth Tweddle master class and why they thought they should go. We then picked those that entered from a hat and Frankie and Ruby were selected from that group. The girls really enjoyed it, it was a great morning!”
At the end, the girls performed their routines to all the parents and Beth spent time posing for photos and giving autographs.
CHS’s Junior pupils have been enjoying a new early-morning Total Gymnastics club at the school’s new Pavilion practising flips, balance beams, trampettes and floor routines when, at the end of each session, the coaches also award a prize for ‘Gymnast of the Week’.
Beth said of the School’s video entry: “It was great to see some of pupils showcasing their gymnastics skills and hearing why they like gymnastics.”
