MiniMUNCH Welcomes Young Debaters
Holden Hall buzzed with energy this week as over 100 Waconians participated in this year’s MiniMUNCH convention.
For a number of years, MiniMUNCH has been a much loved and celebrated part of the CHS Co-curricular programme, providing every pupil with the opportunity to explore Model United Nations dynamics, learn about pressing global matters, and enhance their public speaking skills before taking part in the bigger scale MUNCH convention in the Summer.
This year, after weeks of preparations from staff and students, sixteen Year 6 pupils joined in for the first time and got a taste of what MUNCH is all about.
MUN Coordinator Mrs Judi Shand said: “I think that so many pupils like it because they can all find a job to do no matter what their skills – speaking, admin, chairing – and because they learn so much. Also they know that they are learning about important issues, but above all, it’s fun!”
Adding to the excitement, Year 6 pupils Alice, Liesel and Marie distinguished themselves by representing India and earning the prestigious title of ‘Best Delegation in Crisis’.
Junior School Teacher, Mr Kevin Offord said: “It was lovely to see so many former Junior School children still involved with MUNCH and many would have had their first experience of MUNCH through the MiniMUNCH events when they were in Year 6. For many of the current Year 6s, this will hopefully be the first of continued participation in the future!”
