Mr Fletcher earns prestigious Hill and Moorland Leader Qualification

CHS DofE Co ordinator and Teacher of Physics, Mr Simon Fletcher has recently completed a 3 day assessment in the Peak District with the Mountain Training Association, and has been awarded the Hill and Moorland Leader Qualification!

To earn this credential, candidates must demonstrate through their personal logs that they have the skills and experience to lead groups in Hill and Moorland areas in the UK, which are the same terrains where CHS’s DofE teams conduct their training and qualifying expeditions.

Reflecting on his achievement, Mr Fletcher said: “The assessment involved a lot of testing of navigation skills, including some micro-navigation on the Kinder plateau and a night navigation on Burbage Moor which was fun. A knowledge of flora and fauna, geology and local history must also be demonstrated so that leaders can enthuse and inspire people to explore the outdoors.”

As one of the leaders in the DofE team, we recognise the importance of continuous professional development so that we can demonstrate we have the expertise to support our pupils safely as part of the outdoor co-curricular program, as well as inspiring them to want to get out and explore the wonderful natural world that is on our doorstep.

Well done Mr Fletcher!Â
