Old Waconian and Cricketer Prithvi Shaw, who attended CHS for the summer of 2013 as part of an Indian exchange programme, has captained India’s U19 team to World Cup victory.
India took their fourth U19 World Cup title under the captaincy of Prtihvi and has become the most successful team in the history of the competition after beating Australia by eight wickets.
The win makes India the only team to win the tournament more than three times. Australia were the other team with three titles but now India have stepped ahead of them.
Prithvi had already made waves in the domestic circuit by scoring tons of runs in age-group cricket. Before captaining India in the U19 World Cup, he made his Mumbai debut and already has five centuries. He has now got an IPL contract as well.
After attending CHS for 3 months, Prithvi is only the fourth captain from India to lift the title and says his experience at the School has helped his cricket and overall development significantly (and indirectly his language skills helped him to become India’s Captain).
