World War 1, The Battle of Passchendaele and former CHS students who fought for their lives were honoured when members of the School community gathered for the annual Service of Remembrance.
Congregating in front of the Main Building, over 1500 members of the School community paid their respects with readings and a 2 minute silence.
Assembling on the main steps, Second Master Mr John Winter led proceedings with Year 10 student Siân Talbot and Sixth Form School Council member James Walker reading poems and extracts to commemorate all who have given service – past and present.
CHS’s musicians marked the beginning of the 2-minute silence with ‘Last Post’ before wreaths were displayed at the front of the building.
Parents, Old Waconians, and guests attended a second service at the School’s sundial memorial, led by Reverend Gibbs. Head Lucy Pearson, Head Boy Christopher Squire and Old Waconian Karim Khalil QC laid wreaths before a short prayer and moments of reflection.
