Our Country’s Good for Senior Thespians

CHS’s active drama students took the high seas for a night of dark humour and hard-hitting action at the opening night of Senior School Production, ‘Our Country’s Good.’

Adapted from Thomas Keneally’s novel The Playmaker and set in the 18th Century, students from Year 10 to Year 13 performed Timberlake Wertenbaker’s historical play about a group of Royal Marines and convicts who put on a production of The Recruiting Officer whilst aboard a ship in New South Wales.

Impressing the audience with their strong performances including a variety of authentic accents – the cast captivated the crowd with their interpretation of class struggle and the power of dramatic performance.

The first production in the newly refurbished Holden Hall, a set was designed especially for the production, featuring adaptable sails and hi-tech projections which set the scene.

The School’s next show will be CHS’s Musical Theatre production of ‘Grease’ on 7th & 8th February.
