Pan Stylianou has made history competing for Cyprus National Ruby Team in a tournament in Serbia at the weekend. The team won the plate final against Austria and Pan was nominated by Cyprus as the player of the tournament with 4 tries.
Pan is the youngest player to take the title in Cyprus 7s history. He is also the youngest ever in a professional conference tournament as well as being the youngest try scorer in the tournament’s history!
The Lower Sixth student has been selected for Cyprus 15 trials and hopes to play in October in the season’s first game.
When Pan first found out he was selected to play in the Cyprus National Team he said: “I was really happy when I heard I made the team. It’s an honour to play for my home country.
“I was also a little bit shocked because in the selection process I was up against players who were a lot older and more experienced than me.”
Pan has shown that age doesn’t matter when he made history in Serbia. He is now a step closer to his aspirations.
“I would love to go on and be a rugby player as a career and this is a massive step in the right direction. However, I know that I need to have a backup also so I am looking to get in a good University after I finish my A levels.”
Congratulations Pan, we are very proud!
