CHS’s active students have started the summer term with a host of sporting success in Rugby, Gymnastics, Hockey and Lacrosse.
Year 11’s Ollie Casson and Noah Cripps were selected ahead of a number of other players to play for Sale Sharks in the Warwick Rugby Festival. They performed well against the other top rugby academies in the country.
Year 11 gymnast, Lauren Jones is jumping for joy after being selected for the Women’s Senior England squad 2018. It is the third consecutive year Lauren has been selected, but this year, she will perform for the senior squad at the age of fifteen. Her latest selection comes after successfully competing at the English Championships in February, following a return from an ankle injury.
Six Year 9 boys, Felix Tully, Seb Yates, Maurice Green, Jack Bailey, Cameron Saunders and Luke Finegan were part of the Brooklands Hockey Club U14 team that won the North Boys U14 finals. They celebrated strong victories against Rugby & East Warwickshire, Doncaster and Neston in earlier rounds to get to the final. In May the boys will travel to London to represent the North in the National finals.
As part of the same tournament, Year 8 and Year 9 pupils Keira Owen, Sophie Smith and Hattie Snell represented Alderley Edge Girls U14s.
After winning all their games in the regional rounds, Year 7 girls Layla Jones, Freya Rhodes and Carys Bastin helped their team Alderley Edge U12A take the title of Northern Regional champions after a nail-biting final which went to sudden death on penalties. Winning 7-6, they have also qualified for the Nationals in May.
In Lacrosse, Year 10’s Jack O’Mahoney has been selected for the England Lacrosse Academy and Year 9’s Grace Woosey has been selected for the England Talent Pathway.
Congratulations to all of CHS’s sports stars who continue to shine with their success outside of School.
