The new CHS Sixth Form Centre welcomes its first cohort of students

The contemporary, light and spacious building, which has been completed over the last 8 months, features a large independent learning area, spaces for both collaborative work and silent study, a sizeable common room as well as a café and a covered outdoor eating space. The landmark project is the first time in the School’s 164 year history that Sixth Formers will have their own dedicated building.

Head, Neil Smith, said: “This is a first-class facility which meets the specific needs of our Sixth Form and will significantly add to the School’s 16-18 experience. I am sure this new space will help to inspire and encourage our students so that they can reach their full potential. Following the recent development of the sports pavilion, this is a further addition to the outstanding facilities at CHS.”

Nick Axon, Head of Sixth Form, said: “Sixth Form at CHS is all about preparing our students for university and the world of work. Our new building will provide them with the space they need to develop their independent working skills, as well as facilitating collaborative and project work.

“Our Sixth Form students follow a dynamic pathways curriculum, which incorporates external speakers, academic extension and enrichment, careers guidance and work experience placements, and we are now able to provide the facilities that match our high standard of our academic and pastoral provision.”

The official opening will take place on Tuesday 17th September.
