CHS’s High Performance athletes were given a fascinating insight into life as an Olympian when they were visited by British Freestyle Skier, Katie Summerhayes.
The visit was part of the School’s regular Ezekiel Browne lecture series. Usually for Sixth Form students, this special session was arranged with the School’s Senior sports scholars in mind.
The 22-year-old answered questions from the students alongside Darren Roberts, head of high performance at local physiotherapy firm, Harris & Ross where she is a client.
Fresh from the slopes in Pyeongchang, Katie had recently competed in the Winter Olympics and made the final of the Freestyle skiing slopestyle – finishing an impressive 7th –Â despite harbouring an injury.
Katie and Darren discussed what it takes to make Team GB, the hard work that goes into the prehab for Olympics and Katie’s injury recovery plan.
Katie was the first British female competitor to win a medal at the World Championships in freestyle skiing.
