Remembering Cheadle Hulme School

Since CHS was founded, legacies have played a central role in the development of our school and the lives of its people. From buildings, equipment, student prizes, opportunities and bursaries, legacy donations have helped make CHS and our community what it is today.
Leaving a gift in your will is one of the most personal and significant ways you can support Cheadle Hulme School and will be appreciated by future generations of pupils.

The 1855 Society

The 1855 Society is a group for all those who notify us of their intentions to remember CHS in their will, irrespective of the size of the legacy. We are re-launching the 1855 Society as part of our new 1 in 6 campaign and members will be invited to an annual event at the school with the Head and Governors.

How to leave a gift in your will

If you would like to remember Cheadle Hulme School in your will, after you have provided for your family and loved ones, there are a number of different options:

  • Residuary gifts: all or part of what is left of your estate after all other gifts, debts and other charges have been met. Suggested wording: ‘I give…per cent of the residue of my estate to Cheadle Hulme School for the benefit of the Cheadle Hulme School Bursary Trust (registered charity number 1115254) or to be assigned at the discretion of the Governors of CHS’.
  • Pecuniary gifts: a gift of a specified amount of money determined by you in your will. Suggested wording: ‘I give the sum of (£….) to Cheadle Hulme School (registered charity number 1077017) for the benefit of the Cheadle Hulme School Bursary Trust or to be assigned at the discretion of the Governors of CHS’.
  • A Specific Gift: an asset or shares. The wording you should use for this would be similar to that for a pecuniary bequest but with a full description of the item or items.

If you have already written your will and want to add a gift to Cheadle Hulme School, you do not need to re-do your will, you can simply complete a codicil to add a gift. We do, however, recommend that you always consult your solicitor who will be able to advise you in light of your own personal circumstances.
