Travelling to CHS

When deciding how to travel to school, it is important to note that parking at CHS is very limited and the surrounding roads can become quickly congested, so we urge you to consider alternative modes of transport to minimise these issues. More importantly, this will also protect the environment for all our young people. Travelling by car must be a last resort and there are a number of different options you can choose instead.

Home-to-School Coach Services

We recommend the home to school coach service as a way for most of the senior pupils to travel to school.

To find your nearest pick-up point, simply click here to view the Home School Transport Routes and type a postcode into the search bar, then click on the nearest pick-up point marker.

These services are offered independently of CHS by Elite Services. Enquiries and bookings can be made directly through their website or call the school transport team on 0161 480 0617 for support.

Routes and destinations can change from time to time so please liaise directly with Elite for the latest information

Other ways to travel to CHS

  • Cheadle Hulme railway station is on the Manchester Piccadilly to Crewe and Stoke-on-Trent rail lines and is approximately a 12-minute walk away from School.
  • CHS participates in the annual educational season ticket scheme which offers up to 50% discount on term time train tickets through Northern Rail. The stations included in this are Wilmslow, Poynton, Prestbury, Heaton Chapel and Manchester Piccadilly, however, if your local station is not on the list, you can email education@northernrailway.co.uk to see if your station is eligible. You can download the application form here. https://education.northernrailway.co.uk/s/education-season
  • Northern Rail Saver Scheme. There is a new initiative for 16-17 year olds, giving a 50% discount for all rail fares. There is a £30 payment upfront and students can buy tickets at all times without a minimum value. For further information visit www.16-17saver.co.uk
  • A 16-25 Railcard is also available from National Rail which entitles students to a third off rail travel. The card can be purchased for £30 for one year and £70 for 3 years from  https://www.16-25railcard.co.uk/

An active lifestyle is at the core of school life and many pupils walk, scoot and cycle to school. The inner school campus is pedestrian friendly and vehicle free to allow pupils, staff and visitors to walk around school safely and efficiently.

Cycle park facilities are available outside the netball courts and near Holden hall and scooter parks are available in the junior school playground to encourage sustainable travel for younger pupils and siblings.

Where possible we strongly encourage anyone coming to school to share lifts, it’s a great way to “buddy up” and make new friends. Car sharing is also economical, good for the environment and could significantly reduce traffic congestion resulting in shorter journeys for everyone.

Car sharing is simply when two or more people share a car and travel together. It can be as informal or formal as you like. We operate a pupil/ parent scheme as well as a separate staff scheme. Pupil’s cannot travel with staff as part of the scheme.

If you would like to register, please complete our Pupil/Parent Car Share registration form (log-in required for the Staff registration here).

Only you can decide who you are happy to travel with. It is advisable to check all the legal driving documents, such as driving licence, car insurance, MOT and car tax, whether you know the driver or not.

A number of public service buses also operate in the local area, the nearest public bus stops are on Church Road and Gillbent Road which is a 4 1/2 minute walk from the School Lane entrance.

We would ask that you try to consider alternative modes of transport to driving and only drive if there is no suitable alternative and that you continuously review this decision to ensure that you minimise the parking and driving issues around the school.

When considering parking, we ask that where possible, you use local car parks. There are council-run car parks 9 minutes’ walk away on Mellor Road (SK8 5AZ) and 8 minutes’ walk away on Church Road/Woods Lane (SK8 7JU).

Car parking on site is extremely limited. CHS has a Community Parking Code which all parents, staff and visitors must follow.

A copy of the Community Code can be found here and we would ask that you only travel by car if you are happy to abide by this.

The school values its good relationship with its neighbours and parking is available on residential streets however we ask that you do not park across residents’ driveways and will move your car if requested to do so to enable a resident to access their property. It is also important that you do not mount the pavement or grass verges when stopping or parking, allowing pedestrians to be able to walk on pavements and leaving space for prams and wheelchairs to pass. Please do not double park and ensure that there is always access for emergency vehicles.

If you are parking on site, please remember the campus has a 5mph speed limit, please adhere to this at all times.

Visitors

  • For organised visits, please use the Claremont Road entrance (postcode SK8 6EG). Limited parking is available at the front of our Main Building, including accessible spaces.

Dropping pupils at school

  • Please use the drop-off area at the School Lane entrance (use postcode SK8 6EF) and make use of the park and walk spaces. This area becomes congested at peak times and we ask that everyone is patient and considerate to others.
  • Alternatively there is a drop-off zone at our Gym Car Park off Claremont Road.

Collecting pupils from school

  • Please collect pupils from the School Lane entrance (use postcode SK8 6EF). If you arrive early and need to wait, please ensure that you park safely and do not park on the corner of the School Lane entrance where manoeuvring space is needed for the school coaches to enter and exit and not too close to the School Crossing Patrol, so as not to make their job more difficult and dangerous, and to enable a safe gap to cross pedestrians. Avoid idling and turn your engine off.
  • Alternatively there is a pick-up zone at our Gym Car Park off Claremont Road.

Sports fixtures

  • Please use the School Lane entrance. Parking is limited so you may need to leave time to park off-campus and walk in.
